Alexandria Archaeological Commission Honors EYA with Ben Brenman Archaeology Award
The Alexandria Archaeological Commission (AAC) granted EYA with one of the first-ever Bernard “Ben” Brenman Archaeology in Alexandria Awards. The awards, named in honor of the late Ben Brenman, a longtime Commission chair, serve to recognize outstanding efforts in archeological preservation. The group noted EYA’s efforts to save historical artifacts during the land development process at Ford’s Landing, Stonegate and Old Town Village. While land development was temporarily put on hold, EYA recognized the importance of preserving such historical items as a historic wharf, ship hulls, 5000-year-old American Indian tools, and a Civil War site. Many of the artifacts have been placed on display in Alexandria museums. |
