The New York Times interviewed EYA’s president, Bob Youngentob, as part of their showcase of the upcoming redevelopment along the Old Town Alexandria waterfront. Until recently, a prime section of the waterfront has been home to a group of industrial warehouses and underutilized by residents and visitors. As part of a larger City plan to revitalize the waterfront, EYA is transforming three acres bordered by Duke, Union, and Wolfe Streets to help enhance access to and enjoyment of the waterfront.

Now more than ever, homeowners are seeking walkable communities that promote sustainable and convenient lifestyles. Today’s buyers want to ditch the commute and live within walking distance to shops, restaurants, parks and other urban amenities.

EYA Foundation proudly donated 23 backpacks filled with school supplies for kids-in-need to the Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP). The children (who are ages 5-11) are enrolled in MHP’s after-school homework club in Silver Spring, MD. The homework club provides students a structured and supportive atmosphere for completing school assignments. Literacy specialists also provide small group instruction for children who require more in-depth assistance.

Every year, Smart Growth America presents the LOCUS Leadership Awards to developers and investors who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to public leadership, smart growth development and furthering the mission of advocating for sustainable, walkable urban development.

The EYA Foundation is excited to announce one of its recently awarded grant recipients, the Alexandria Seaport Foundation (ASF). ASF supports at-risk youth through mentoring, project-based learning and wooden boat building. The donation will help to fund ASF’s Apprentice Program for young adults ages 18-22 who face barriers to employment and the Middle School Math Program implemented in industrial arts classes in Alexandria and Arlington schools.
