The following are some of the latest products and trends identified by our team.
EYA's Senior Design Manager, Amanda King, remarked that she noticed a shift in color preferences towards green and earth tones, moving away from the previously dominant grays. This change reflects a broader trend towards using more natural colors that add warmth and depth to interior spaces.
Jennifer Everly, EYA's Director of Product Development, observed a focus on sustainability and green building practices. She noted an industry-wide increase in products designed for environmental efficiency, a trend that aligns with EYA’s commitment to sustainable development.

EYA's Senior Design Consultant, Stephanie Fulop, remarked on the use of natural materials, particularly wood tones, in interior finishes. This trend towards natural elements is part of a larger movement to bring the outdoors inside, creating spaces that feel more connected to the natural environment.
This type of interior design, often referred to as biophilic design, has been incorporated into a number of EYA model homes. Read this blog post to learn more about biophilic design and how it was used at our Reston Station model home (featured on NBC4).
Many conversations at IBS involved the future of kitchen appliances, with a particular focus on electric and induction cooktops. The shift towards these appliances reflects a broader trend towards sustainability and efficiency in the home. Electric appliances such as induction cooktops, known for their energy efficiency and safety, align with EYA’s vision for modern, eco-friendly living spaces.
The team also observed an increase in electric fireplace options, indicating a move towards cleaner, more sustainable energy sources in home design.
EYA has already begun to incorporate all-electric design into our communities, including Reservoir District in DC and Westbard Square in Bethesda. Click here to read a blog post about the all-electric homes at Reservoir District and the benefits this brings to residents and the environment.
The integration of smart home features, including touchless vents and innovative lighting solutions, was another key trend. Such technology enhances convenience and wellness, a theme that extends to the growing popularity of bidets and other health-focused bathroom fixtures. These insights underline the importance of technology in creating comfortable, efficient living environments.
Attending the builders' show not only reinforces that EYA is aligned with industry best practices in promoting sustainability and the best in home design, but also provides opportunities to incorporate the best new products into our homes that homebuyers are seeking in their modern lifestyles. From the use of natural colors and materials to the integration of sustainable building practices and modern eco-friendly appliances, these elements have and will continue to represent the building blocks of our next-generation modern townhomes.
As we look to the future, EYA remains dedicated to creating sustainable communities that reflect the latest in design and technology, while prioritizing environmental responsibility and the well-being of our residents.
