On Friday, October 3rd, EYA team members gathered on the green of Four Mile Run Park & Playground in Alexandria, VA for EYA Foundation’s annual Day of Service. This year, EYA teamed up with RunningBrooke and the City of Alexandria, Virginia Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities.

RunningBrooke is dedicated to getting Alexandria’s children physically active to spark happier, healthier, learning-ready students. Their mission is for every child in every school and underserved neighborhood in Alexandria to have access to and reap the broad benefits of physical activity.

At Four Mile Run Park, a new playground was recently built for the kids and their families in the neighborhood to enjoy. EYA spent the day planting trees, mulching, and cleaning up pollinator gardens near and around the playground as well as the sport court with basketball hoops and soccer nets. At the end of the day, 17 new trees were planted and the gardens were free of weeds.

While home building is what we do, building sustainable neighborhoods is what we love—and that includes giving back to the communities where we build. The EYA Foundation participates in a variety of charitable activities throughout the year—from lending our construction expertise to organizations in need of support to arranging volunteer and donation events for our staff's involvement.
