Wallternatives!

By: EYA Pugrant
August 18th, 2011

Stark white walls can sometimes make a home feel drab, but wallpapering and painting are often long and tedious processes. If you want large wall coverings, what wall alternatives, or "wallternatives," if you will, do we have that are easier to apply and also easier to change? After perusing through some recent design work, we noticed more and more designers using wall murals in their projects. Wall murals, while similar in ways to wallpaper, are easier to remove and change when a homeowner decides they want to redo a room. Also, they’re extremely customizable so they can fit in any room or design idea. You can easily adjust the size and shape of a pre-made mural, or even get a mural of one of your own photos or pieces of art. The website www.muralsyourway.com is an online mural site that has over 7500 wall mural images for you to choose from, and also allows you upload your own images to be printed as a wall-size mural. Another neat feature of this site is that it allows you to preview any of their wall mural images in a virtual room that you can drag furniture into to try and give you a feel of what the mural would look like in your townhome.

August 11th, 2011

The one concession of living in a townhome, however, may be compromising on square footage. While many townhomes today are designed with open space floorplans and effective storage construction, using strategic design techniques can help make a smaller room seem spacious and airy. All homes have rooms that are limited by size, but keeping the following tips in mind can help open up your dark or small room.

By: EYA Pugrant
August 8th, 2011

When you live in a neighborhood within walking distance of most necessities and public transportation, you often think twice about using your car and wasting that gas money unnecessarily. As a result, your car often sits in the garage taking up floor space, making it difficult to store miscellaneous items and walk around your garage with ease.

Don't-Involve-Yourself: Changing Your Attitude About DIY Design

By: EYA Pugrant
July 22nd, 2011

To many people, the idea of taking on a do-it-yourself (or DIY) design project is extremely daunting given the amount of time and energy that is often involved. If you watch any HGTV or TLC, you’ve seen the nightmares that are often associated with major DIY projects: missed deadlines, extended budgets, and extreme hassle. As a result, the DIY acronym changes from "do-it-yourself" to a "don't-involve-yourself" type of attitude when it comes to designing one's home. But DIY projects are not always something to steer away from – you just have to choose projects that fit in best with your lifestyle. Deciding to redo your entire kitchen on your own when you work full time might be a little ambitious, but including small DIY projects in your home can increase your love of a room because you have complete control over the outcome and aren't limited by what you can find at your local design stores.
