The recent International Builders' Show (IBS) in Las Vegas offered a wealth of information on the latest trends in home design, architecture, sustainability and technology. EYA team members attended the event to gather insights on new products our homebuyers will love, smart home technology that will benefit both residents and the environment and much more.

The following are some of the top insights identified by our team.

1. Where you live is more than a house, it's home

One of the key insights from IBS was the distinction between a house and a home. A home is more than just a physical structure—it has a deeply emotional significance, shaping the way people feel and live.

EYA's Marketing Manager, Lisa Youngentob, noted "Many of the exhibits emphasized wellness, underscoring the importance of creating spaces that support well-being and comfort."

Additionally, the sales and marketing educational panels highlighted the importance of understanding not only buyers' physical needs, but also their emotional needs, helping to build deeper connections and more meaningful living experiences.

2. Kitchen trends include skinny shaker cabinets and monochromatic colors

A new take on the classic shaker cabinet door, the "skinny shaker" has thinner frames, providing a sleeker and more refined look than the typical thick and chunky frames. In the photo below, the top row of cabinets showcases this style compared to the more traditional shaker style samples sitting on the counter.

Monochromatic kitchens were also on display, showcasing some beautiful colors.

3. Wellness spaces brought inside the home

EYA's Design Consultant, NaaKoshie Bannerman, noted this trend from the show:

"Another current trend is bringing wellness spaces and features inside the home. This includes things such as saunas and cold plunge tubs."

4. Color trends include bright saturated earth tones and gold finishes

Color trends for this year include bright saturated earth tone colors (such as greens, blues and terracotta) incorporated with warm neutrals.

The use of these colors go beyond just paint and were also showcased on features such as sinks and tubs.

And gold finishes are a popular choice for hardware, both in the kitchen and bathroom finishes.

5. AI advances continue throughout the industry

EYA's Vice President of Construction Operations, Matt Robison, noted the advancements of AI throughout the building industry.

"Homebuilding is becoming more technology-driven, with AI-powered HVAC systems, smart water management solutions, and integrated home automation systems designed to enhance energy efficiency and security."

He also added, "AI-powered project management software, predictive analytics for cost estimation, and automation in scheduling and material tracking were among the most exciting advancements aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing costs."

6. Energy efficiency, durability and weather resistance remain key

The push for net-zero energy homes continues, with advances in better insulation, solar integration, energy recovery ventilation (ERV) systems, and improved building envelope design.

Furthermore, given the increasing impact of extreme weather events, hurricane-resistant roofing, wildfire-resistant siding, and advanced waterproofing systems were among the standout innovations.

7. Outdoor living features continue to be popular among buyers

Outdoor living spaces continue to be popular features for homebuyers. Whether its a yard, deck or rooftop terrace, buyers are looking for spaces to enjoy the outdoors and features to make outdoor living special and comfortable. EYA's Senior Purchasing Director, Tom Brick, noted that a number of interesting outdoor living features caught his attention, including heated adirondack chairs and mosquito control zones.

A big thanks to the EYA team who attended the show for their insights!
