Every year, thousands of people visit DC to celebrate Independence Day in the Nation’s capital. The city hosts many fun events for the whole family to enjoy, including parades, concerts and spectacular fireworks over the National Mall. Here are a few ideas to kick off your celebrations.
Begin your day reliving history as a founding father and get the chance to sign a replica of the Declaration of Independence at 7th Street and Constitution Ave. After leaving your mark, continue to the National Archives at 10:00 am for the Declaration of Independence Reading Ceremony. Hear songs, historic speeches, and a dramatic reenacted reading of the Declaration of Independence! Then head over to the National Archive Museum’s Boeing Learning Center for a fun-filled day of events including arts and crafts, stories, a chocolate tasting, and more.
Another fantastic July 4th tradition is watching the Independence Day Parade. The annual parade begins at 11:45 am at 7th Street and travels up Constitution Ave to 17th Street. See marching bands, floats, and political figures as they celebrate this historic day in our country’s history. The events continue at 8:00 pm with A Capitol Fourth Concert! The live music, hosted by Tom Bergeron and televised by PBS, will be held on the US Capitol West Lawn. Enjoy star-studded performances by Phillip Phillips, Jordin Sparks, Frankie Valli, The Muppets, Patti Labelle, and the National Symphony Orchestra. Be sure not to miss the famous July 4th fireworks beginning at 9:10 pm!
