One stop at Chez Hareg Gourmet Bakery and it will immediately become your weekly indulgence. Or even your daily coffee stop for their amazing Cappuccino and dunkable biscotti.
I popped in around lunch time the other day and was pleased to meet the founder herself - a bubbly passionate Ethopian woman named Haregewine Messert.
Originally a nursing student at Howard University, Ms. Messert followed her passions and pursued a Culinary Arts degree at Stratford University. After spending several years with Ritz Carlton Hotels, she opened her own business, bakery/storefront, and now supplies Whole Foods and Yes! Organic Market with her selection of healthy and organic products.
I couldn't help but pick up all FOUR of her warm croissants which had just come out of the oven - and they were simply amazing. A friendly gentleman customer in the store chatted with us while he enjoyed his mid-day coffee in the cafe at 2312 Fourth Street SE.
Chez Hareg offers a good variety of pretty cakes, pies, cookies and French-inspired delicacies - as well as healthy-living snacks and Vegan items. Ms. Messert's personality is just as sweet as her pastries - so this Cafe gets 5 stars from me.
