Every 4th of July, thousands of DC area residents and out of town guests flock to the National Mall to view the incredible fireworks display over the monuments. Many of EYA’s developments, both old and new, are in a prime location to access the National Mall as well as various other 4th of July celebrations.
From Chancellor’s Row, the best way to get to the National Mall would be by Metro. Walk to the Brookland Metro station and ride the red line to Judiciary Square. Exit the metro station and head to the nearby Capitol building where you can view the Capitol 4th Concert which takes place on the West Lawn of the Capitol building.
The annual concert features performances by the National Symphony Orchestra, American Idol winner Phillip Phillips, The Voice winner Javier Colon, Matthew Broderick, and many more. Also don’t miss Apollo Anton Ohno as he joins composer John Williams in sending off Team USA to London. Or you can also watch the excitement from the comfort of your own home by tuning into WETA TV 26. Perhaps if you’re really lucky, you’ll even be able to view the fireworks from your roof top terrace.
For those living in Alexandria, including residents of Old Town Commons, walk down to Oronoco Bay Park (front yard to EYA’s newest project, The Oronoco.) Not only will you be able to see the fireworks over the National Mall, but because of the park's spot on the Potomac River, you will get a unique panoramic view of various firework displays from across the entire metro area.
And if you happen to miss the shows on the 4th, or if you simply can’t get enough, come back down to Oronoco Bay Park on July 7th from 4-10 for a full evening of festivities to celebrate Independence Day as well as Alexandria’s birthday. The celebration ends with a performance by Alexandria’s Symphony Orchestra and a fireworks display at 9:30 pm.
