Last night, Bethesda-based real estate developer and new home builder EYA was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Building industry leaders selected EYA for recognition at the 2009 Great American Living Awards (GALA) at the Ritz Carlton in Tyson’s Corner, an annual region-wide awards competition for home builders and developers.
Judges chose EYA for the Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to new home and community design in the Washington Metropolitan area; pioneering the way developers build communities in locations where home buyers are close to employment centers, entertainment, and public transportation; leading the way for green design in large-scale communities, such as building the nation’s largest LEED for Homes community; and giving back in communities where they build, including important contributions in DC public schools, building industry charities, and numerous advisory boards throughout Washington. Founders Terry Eakin, Chairman of the Board, and President and CEO Bob Youngentob accepted the award for EYA.
“It is truly a pleasure to accept this honor from my peers and colleagues tonight. Since we founded EYA in 1992, we have had the pleasure of interacting with so many talented individuals – our success would not have been possible without our partners, employees, and friends. We are thrilled that so many buyers have chosen to call EYA neighborhoods, ‘home’,” said Terry Eakin, Chairman and Co-Founder.
In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award, EYA was also honored with awards for “Innovative Infill Land Planning”, “Green Building”, and “Interior Design” at its Capitol Quarter townhome neighborhood in DC.
Since the company’s founding in 1992, EYA has been recognized with nearly 200 awards, including over 80 “GALA/Monument” awards locally and the ULI International Award for Excellence. Just earlier this year, BUILDER Magazine selected EYA as “America’s Best Builder” for the second time in 8 years, a national competition in which the magazine evaluates builders on their company strategy, community design, and contributions to the industry.
