And the award goes to...
EYA took home the Community of the Year Grand Award and numerous other awards at last week's Great American Living Awards (GALA) ceremony. The annual awards show recognizes the best in new home design, construction, and sales in the mid-Atlantic region. The GALA awards are organized by the Northern Virginia and Maryland National Capital Building Industry Associations (NVBIA and MNCBIA).
Chancellor's Row was bestowed the Grand Award for Community of the Year. Judges considered the neighborhood's proximity to shops and transit, home and landscape design, open space and amenities, and overall market acceptance. Now in Phase 2 sales, Chancellor's Row is uniquely located on 10 lushly landscaped acres of St. Paul's College campus and offers homeowners expansive green spaces within walking distance to Brookland Metro station. The community also won an award for Innovative Infill Land Planning.
EYA and Carlyn & Company together won awards for Best Interior Design for the Duncan model at Old Town Commons and the Barton and Dupont models at Chancellor's Row. The award recognizes outstanding space planning and use of furnishings to demonstrate the living environment of an EYA townhome. The Duncan model at Old Town Commons was also recognized for "Best Townhome Design and Architecture". Judges evaluated floor plan design and architectural features for this category.
The EYA sales team was recognized for outstanding sales performance with six "Million Dollar Club" awards. Further, the sales representative with the most sales revenue in the entire Washington region was Capitol Quarter's Phil Salin. Capitol Quarter is EYA's new townhome community on Capitol Hill near Nationals Stadium and Navy Yard Metro station.
The GALA awards program is the most prestigious residential competition in the metropolitan Washington market. Builders, developers, architects, sales, marketing, merchandising, and advertising professionals have judged these awards for more than 50 years and to win a GALA is considered the "best of the best." The full list of 2011 winners is available here.
EYA has won more than 150 GALA awards since the program began collectively as Finest for Family Living Awards (FFL) and Major Achievement in Marketing Excellence (MAME).

At EYA, it is often said that we don't just build homes, we build neighborhoods. Every neighborhood is built with a holistic approach to not only create housing opportunities, but also with an eye towards enduring design, place making and connecting residents with each other and their community. This may be done in various ways, such as creating parks and playgrounds where neighbors can meet and become friends, or through unique art installations that give the neighborhood a sense of place and makes it feel like home.

It was an unlikely setting for one of Alexandria’s most significant archeological discoveries: an enormous storage garage in the city’s West End, typically used to house unused school buses and emergency vehicles. Instead, nine giant pools filled half the industrial facility, each holding a unique piece of history.
