Visit Old Town Alexandria next Saturday, May 19th for the 2nd Annual Boutiques Give Back Day. Sponsored by the Old Town Boutique District, Boutiques Give Back Day brings together 34 local businesses to support charities on this special shopping day.
Participating businesses will be collecting goods and donating a percentage of sales to their selected charities. For example, The Sugar Cube is collecting non-perishable food items for the Capital Area Food Bank and giving customers one percent off for every item donated. Red Barn Mercantile is donating 20 percent of sales to Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia and providing free design advice to customers.
Many of Old Town’s most popular boutiques are located within walking distance of EYA’s Old Town Commons and our newest community, The Oronoco, opening this summer. From cafés and art galleries to critically acclaimed restaurants, come explore Old Town on May 19th and enjoy a “feel good” shopping day!

People who are exploring a new place to live often focus on tangible, measurable considerations: The size of their desired home and the cost of their rent or mortgage; the school choices for their children; or the availability of particular amenities like Metro access. That makes sense, of course, since these factors are often non-negotiable items that affect our bottom line. A far less tangible factor that’s just as important for wellbeing and happiness is the community we become part of: The people we see every day or even a few times a month, the shops and restaurants we regularly frequent, and the essential workers who keep our neighborhoods safe and running smoothly.
