Foodie Festivus & Tree Lighting in Silver Spring

Not your typical tree lighting ceremony, downtown Silver Spring will be unveiling its 30-foot holiday tree made of recycled glass and kitchen items on Saturday, November 14th! The public art installation will feature spatula snowflakes, take-out food containers, utensil tinsel (u-tinsel) and a beautiful blue glass bottle star. The tree lighting and street fest begins at 6 PM and also includes food tastings, live music, drink specials, an ice skating Santa and more!

The installation art aims to celebrate the role food plays during the holidays and kick off the season-long Foodie Festivus. Foodie Festivus will offer chef-inspired events and food specials at local restaurants. Canned food items will also be collected and donated to Manna Food Center.

EYA Foundation proudly donated 23 backpacks filled with school supplies for kids-in-need to the Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP). The children (who are ages 5-11) are enrolled in MHP’s after-school homework club in Silver Spring, MD. The homework club provides students a structured and supportive atmosphere for completing school assignments. Literacy specialists also provide small group instruction for children who require more in-depth assistance.
