If the thought of staring mindlessly at the timer of a treadmill leaves you running from the gym, you're not alone!
Instead, Master Jon O'Kelly of Brookland's Northeast Tae Kwon Do would like to turn you onto the art and sport of taekwondo - Korea's national sport and the world's most popular martial art.
Conveniently located along Brookland's historic main street at 3520 12th Street in Washington, DC, Master O'Kelly's studio offers classes and instruction for children and adults alike.
Adults who practice the art of taekwondo enjoy the benefits of self defense, flexibility, concentration, and overall improvement in physical fitness, energy and strength. Beginners start as "white belts" and are trained by one of the school's talented and knowledgeable instructors.
For kids starting at age 3, Northeast Tae Kwon Do provides life & learning skills, along with discipline and basic classroom etiquette. Children start programs in one of three annual enrollment periods (January, May and September). Alternatively, Master O'Kelly offers offsite instruction at several nearby schools (Brent Elementary School, Capitol Hill Day School/St. Peter's and Beauvoir National Cathedral Elementary School).
To participate, simply call the school to sign up for a complimentary class and decide if taekwondo is right for you. An ongoing membership to the school would include twice weekly classes (from your choice of Monday or Wednesday evenings or Saturday mornings).
Northeast Tae Kwon Do is located a few blocks from Brookland Metro station (on the red line) within walking distance of EYA's townhomes at Chancellor's Row.
